Foods Poisonous to Your Dog

Apple stems, leaves and seeds: Can cause vomiting, diarrhea, a lack of oxygen in the blood, decreased heart rate, respiratory congestion, seizures, coma, and can lead to respiratory failure and death if large amounts are ingested. The Apple flesh itself is healthy for your dog

Avocados: Can cause difficulty breathing; fluid accumulation in the chest, abdomen and heart; or pancreatitis.

Caffeine: Can cause vomiting, restlessness, and heart palpitations.

Chocolate: Can cause vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, panting, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures—and even death in severe cases

Garlic: Can cause the same problems as onions when large amounts are ingested.

Grapes and Raisins: Can cause renal failure in dogs who’ve ingested large amounts. It is not clear if only certain dogs are affected, or if long-term ingestion can lead to the same effects that a large one-time ingestion can.

Onions or Chives: (raw, powdered, dehydrated, or cooked) Can be fatal to dogs. Onions destroy red blood cells and can cause anemia, weakness, and breathing difficulty. Even small amounts can cause cumulative damage over time.

Tomatoes: Can produce significant gastrointestinal and central nervous system effects. The green parts of the tomato plant are considered toxic, because they contain solanine, but ripe tomatoes are not toxic.
